2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Spied Alongside Its Three-Row Sibling

The redesigned version of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been finally spied testing alongside its three-row sibling L model. As the next-generation, the new SUV features way more luxury than its predecessor. On top of that, year by year, it keeps its rugged and outdoorsy look that Jeep buyers love to see.

However, for the 2022 year, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will bring many improvements. The overall design is refreshed, and it looks more attractive. Like before, this model should be available in two forms. There’s a model with two rows of seats and three-row. Moreover, both of them are powered by choosing either a 3.6-liter V-6 or a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine. Basically, the most exciting news is that Jeep is also working on a plug-in hybrid 4Xe version that will be introduced later this year for the first time. Probably it will use the same system that we saw recently on the new Wrangler PHEV model.

According to the latest spy photos, both the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and L versions will arrive with some refreshments. However, while the two-row model is under heavy camo, the three-row is complete without it. Overall, the design is bolder than before, and the rear doors on the three-row model are longer. Thanks to that, it allows easier access to the back seats. Compered these two models, we also managed to see visible differences in the D-pillar treatment.

Basically, the two-row Cherokee is shaped differently and lacks the blacked-out insert that is visible on the L version. Interestingly, there are visible differences on the front fascia too. The lower bumper grille on the two-row version is inverted compared to the L’s version, and some small differences can be seen on the headlights.

Grand Interior

The new modernized cabin will replace a somewhat dated interior. Perhaps the most exciting news is the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L model. Unlike the two rows variant, the L model comes with three-row seats, offering space for up to seven passengers via an optional second-row bench seat. While Laredo trim is basic, upscale Summit and Overland trims will add more luxury like leather upholstery, wood trim, and high-tech digital displays.

Moreover, all models comes with a new 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that floats just above the surface of the dashboard. Also, Jeep offers standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Limited model is available as well, featuring a six-speaker stereo that can be upgraded to either a nine-speaker Alpine audio setup or a high-end 19-speaker McIntosh arrangement.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine Specs

Like its predecessor, the Grand Cherokee will be available by either a 3.6-liter V-6 or a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine. Moreover, Jeep is also preparing to introduce the new version that will use a plug-in hybrid 4Xe powertrain for the first time. Rear-wheel drive will likely be offered as standard, while several different all-wheel-drive systems are optional.

Fuel economy estimates haven’t been available yet, but we aren’t expecting too many changes over the previous gen. The current model with rear-wheel drive V-6 provides 26 mpg combined and 14 mpg for the all-wheel-drive V-8 model. The plug-in hybrid 4Xe will be for sure the most efficient engine, but we’ll have to wait for additional details about it.
