The release date of the all-new 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid is near. The first ever Hyundai’s Plug-In Hybrid will go on sale in the summer, starting at around $35,000. However, compared to the regular version, the hybrid one doesn’t reveal drastic visual changes.
According to Hyundai, the all-new plug-in hybrid will be available with two trim levels, SEL and Limited. Generally, most of visual upgrades will happen inside, and SEL is getting Hyundai’s latest 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and very responsive 8.0-inch infotainment screen. The Santa Fe plug-in hybrid uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a 12.4-kWh battery pack and an electric motor. Alongside this version, the manufacturer will also introduce the regular hybrid model.
2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid First Look
The upcoming 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid will not significantly different visually compared to the gas-powered versions. This SUV looks attractive and is one of the most selling models in the Hyundai lineup of SUVs. The Santa Fe PHEV SEL version is the SUV that features LED headlights, roof rails, heated side mirrors, and attractive 18-inch alloy wheels.
However, Limited trim offers an inch bigger in diameter wheels and also features like 360-degree camera system and Remote Smart Parking Assist. Unlike the standard hybrid model, the plug-in hybrid is a little more heavily on its electric side because of battery capacity. Its battery can be recharged from an outside source, and it provides some useful distance in electric mode.

The forthcoming 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In will offer a very modern and spacious cabin. According to Hyundai, the Santa Fe hybrid will be available with two trim levels, SEL and Limited. The entry-level SEL offers a great package of equipment includes a new 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 8.0-inch infotainment screen.
Besides, SEL is also available with Hyundai’s digital key and Smart Sense safety features. However, more features buyers can find choosing the Limited models. Basically, this trim is filled with techs like ventilated leather seats, Hyundai’s Smart Park, and a 10.3-inch screen as standard.
2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid Engine Specs
The all-new Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 177-hp. This engine is paired with a 12.4-kWh battery pack and an electric motor that makes 90 horsepower. Thanks to that, the total output of this model is 260 horsepower using all four wheels.
The hybrid model is available as well, and it deploys a 1.6-liter turbo engine with a 60-hp electric motor providing a total of 226 horsepower. Hyundai claims that the hybrid will achieve 34 mpg, while the plug-in should provide 33 mpg and 30 miles of electric driving range.
Release Date and Price
Hyundai recently stated that the Santa Fe Hybrid would arrive first in the spring, while the plug-in-hybrid version should go on sale in the summer. The new 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-In Hybrid will cost around $35,000 for the SEL trim level.
However, as for the hybrid variant, expect it to cost a few thousand dollars less. Competitors that are also getting an PHEV system in near future are Nissan Murano, Honda Passport, and Ford Edge.
