The Japanese manufacturer will expand its lineup of SUVs with the new plug-in hybrid model called 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime. Toyota’s upcoming crossover SUV is the most efficient, most powerful and quickest RAV4 ever. Moreover, the new Prime will differ in many things from the regular model.
Most of the changes will include better materials inside and mechanical revisions. The exterior will be almost the same with some upgrades here and there. Under the hood, the PHEV variant with a total system delivers an output of 302 horsepower. The company says that this model will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, much faster than the 7.8 seconds current hybrid model.
2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime Design and Trims
The exterior design of 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime is more appealing if we compare it with the base model. The “Prime” name is used from the popular plug-in hybrid Prius Prime. However, at first glance, the newest RAV4 Prime provides almost the same design as the RAV4 standard edition. From the latest information, this model will be available in two sports trims SE and XSE.
The standard RAV4 Prime SE trim level will come with distinctive grille design and lower front spoiler along with piano black exterior accents. This model also comes with stylish 18-inch wheels. However, jumping to the XSE version, buyers will get all the benefits. This model offers 2-tone exterior paint treatment with a black roof offsetting select colors, LED accent lights, and bigger 19-inch wheels.
Inside, the RAV4 Prime will provide more features than the standard model. Both trim levels are well equipped. The SE trim includes heated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, 8-in infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa. Also, this trim is equipped with a power liftgate and blind-spot monitoring.
There’s also available Weather & Moonroof Package that will add a moonroof, heated steering wheel, heated rear outboard seats and so on. Going for the XSE, the buyer will get paddle shifters, moonroof, SofTex synthetic leather seating, navigation, ambient lighting, and upgraded 9-inch infotainment system with a Premium Audio JBL speakers.
The new RAV4 Prime features the latest version of the Toyota Safety Sense technology suite. This package is equipped with a pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, lane tracing assist and also road sign assist.

The latest plug-in hybrid Prime can travel up to 39 miles thanks to the 16 kWh battery. Charging is quick and to recharge this battery with 240-volt equipment, it needs around two hours.
