The upcoming 2020 Volvo XC70 is a mid-size SUV that will arrive later this year. The new model will introduce numerous mid-cycle refreshment. We don’t expect significant changes at all. The exterior will introduce slight updates and the interior will be modernized. This SUV slots between the XC60 and XC90 models.
It looks sporty and attractive. The interior is comfortable and it offers a satisfying level of luxury. The Swedish carmaker is slowly turning to bigger and bigger models. Especially in the SUV segment. However, this mid-size SUV will continue with good sales and we can expect more drastic changes next year.
2020 Volvo XC70 Design and Platform
After the new platform, this SUV won’t introduce any drastic changes. This SUV now rides on the SPA platform, a modular architecture that became very popular in this segment. This platform can accommodate hybrid drivetrain and it supports numerous body styles. However, dimensionally, the 2020 Volvo XC70 will stay intact.
This SUV will retain its shape as well. XC70 looks attractive and it sports a perfect styling. It is a practical model with numerous standard exterior features. It comes with standard LED headlights and taillights. Premium alloy wheels are available as an option. The mid-size SUV slots between the XC60 and XC90 models. We can expect significant upgrades in 2021.
Interior Comfort Is Great
The upcoming 2020 Volvo XC70 will offer very modern interior design. Interestingly, Swedish automaker plans to introduce an autonomous driving system. Current reports are suggesting autonomous drive Level 3. For that reason, Volvo will offer plenty of driver-assistance systems. With this level of autonomy, XC70 will be able to park itself.
When it comes to interior features, this SUV comes with large infotainment display. The infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also, full leather upholstery is optional on the base model. Comfort is great and the seats are very supportive. Even the base model with cloth seats is comfortable and long trips won’t be a problem.
Volvo will continue to deploy T5 and T6 type of engines. Just like the XC60, the 2020 XC70 will ride on the same 2.0-liter turbo unit. This four-cylinder engine provides 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque.
Front-wheel-drive setup is standard but you can buy an optional all-wheel-drive system. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is available as well. When it comes to the T6 engine, XC70 might introduce an optional unit that will generate 315 HP. Furthermore, we can expect around 295 lb-ft of twist.
Thanks to the new platform, a hybrid model is very probable. The hybrid variant will most likely arrive with a single electric motor and a battery pack. And while the power will get a slight increase, mileage will jump to almost 30 mpg combined. Volvo also has plans to electrify its whole SUV lineup. But this won’t happen in the next year or two.
