The 2021 Subaru Outback is getting more refreshments. The Japanese automaker plans to introduce the sixth-generation in 2020. This model will get plenty of changes. However, latest rumors are saying the 2021 Outback will also get numerous updates. You can expect the same design with a couple of minor tweaks. Interior will provide slightly more updates.
However, the biggest upgrade will be the all-new engine. Subaru’s Viziv Concept is now “a thing” and plenty of new models will be based on this concept. However, don’t expect such a level of sportiness with the Outback. The crossover will continue to look like an SUV-station wagon.
2021 Subaru Outback Looks Significantly Sharper
Subaru plans to change its design language. Basically, all of the future vehicles will wear the design of the Viziv Concept. The same will happen with the 2021 Subaru Outback. However, don’t expect such a great level of sportiness. On the other hand, we can expect a couple of muscular cues.
Up front, the hexagonal grille will remain but it will be more squared-off. You can forget about the C-shaped headlights. New headlight units will be more angular. To the sides, the Viziv Concept is more visible. Lower ride height, bigger wheels, and narrower windows are easy to spot. Also, new Outback will add more creases on the doors. The rear part will look significantly sharper. However, dimensions will remain. That means the 2021 Outback will be 189.6 inches long.
The interior will also introduce numerous updates. However, don’t expect such dramatic changes. Whatsoever, the 2021 Outback will surely deliver more updates. On the other hand, we can expect a modern interior design with new and larger screens. Updated infotainment system and digital gauge cluster are certain. The 2021 Subaru Outback will continue to offer a room for five passengers. However, we can expect better comfort and improved ride quality.
The crossover will now offer Subaru’s Eyesight system as standard. This system comes with a set of cameras that will identify other vehicles on the road. Also, the system identifies pedestrian and other objects. The Eyesight system also automatically decreases the throttle and deploy brakes. Safety rating will be significantly improved. Also, this system comes with numerous driver-assistance features.
Current Subaru Outback offers a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and 3.6-liter six-cylinder engines. The first unit is good for 175 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque. The second engine won’t be available anymore. That means the 2021 Subaru Outback will get an all-new 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit.
This turbocharged unit can be found in the Ascent model. It can produce up to 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. On top of that, Subaru will put the same engine under the hood of the new Legacy model. The turbocharged engine also offers a direct injection system, a CVT gearbox, and an all-wheel-drive configuration.
