The all-new 2021 Mazda CX-9 is in the works, and it will reach American soil later next year. It is a crossover, and it is produced in the plant shared between Mazda and Toyota. There will be room for seven passengers across the three rows of seats. New CX-9 won’t get such a significant upgrade for 2021.
The exterior and the interior will only get a couple of minor upgrades. That includes subtle cosmetic changes and numerous tech updates. We could also expect new exterior paints. As for the performance, nothing will change under the shell.
Exterior Changes
The forthcoming 2021 Mazda CX-9 will obtain a couple of subtle visual updates. Still, this crossover looks like a larger version of the CX-5 model. On the other hand, it is a unique crossover in terms of styling. We like the thinner headlamps and more extended hood design. CX-9 looks attractive, and it sports numerous modern cues. For 2021, CX-9 will get slightly wider grille. The rear part sports relatively new exhausts and horizontal taillights. Some parts are looking sporty, and it is a good thing.
A perfect mix of traditional design with modern features and sportier styling. New exterior paints could also be in the offer later next year. 18-inch wheels are still standard options on the base trim level. Upper trim levels are offering larger 20-inch wheels. Mazda also has to provide a power liftgate feature that is optional on the entry-level models.
Mazda CX-9 Interior Specs
We like Mazda’s way of creating the interior. Every company’s models look so stylish and modern. The approaching 2021 Mazda CX-9 is no different. Wider center console and standard 7.0-inch touchscreen are dominating the center stack. This crossover offers a room for seven persons. Nothing will change in this department as CX-9 already provides three rows of seats. The interior room is generous for the segment. Still, third-row is recommended for kids and not the adults.
Cargo area is rated at 38.3 cubic feet with the rear seats down. You can buy a lot of optional equipment. However, this equipment is standard on the upper trim levels. That includes a larger 8.0-inch display, leather upholstery, and additional driver-assistance features. Grand Touring trim level is very luxurious and offers most of these features as standard.
Potent Turbocharged Engine
The arriving crossover will remain in terms of mechanics. Under the hood, the 2021 Mazda CX-9 continues to offer a 2.5-liter four-cylinder. This gasoline powertrain is producing 277 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The reason for such strong figures is its turbocharger. A 6-speed automatic transmission is available, and it provides proper shifting. The ride is smooth and comfortable, even in the base trim level.
Mazda offers a standard FWD system, but you can buy an optional AWD configuration. The CX-9 crossover is rated at 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Loading AWD system will lower these figures but not drastically. In the end, this crossover can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
2021 Mazda CX-9 Price and Release Date
The price of the next 2021 Mazda CX-9 starts at $33,000. It is the same today’s price, so nothing will change in this category as well. On the other hand, this crossover could get a significant upgrade in 2022. Before that, we anticipate new CX-9 to arrive at some point in the second half of 2020.
