The forthcoming 2020 Mahindra XUV500 is a mid-size SUV that is about to enter a new generation. The second generation is about to arrive and it will bring plenty of upgrades and changes. Whatsoever, new XUV500 will be the first Mahindra’s vehicle to ride on a monocoque chassis. This chassis is shared with SsangYong.
The current model was updates more than five times and Mahindra finally decided to start the new generation of the popular SUV. The 2020 XUV500 will is already in development. It will be a slightly larger model than its predecessor and it will offer more interior space. The new platform will make this SUV lighter and more versatile and even the design will undergo some serious updates. There will be three rows of seats once again, and Mahindra will offer the same mHawk 2.2-liter engine.
2020 Mahindra XUV500 Delivers Some Serious Upgrades
The upcoming 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will basically be an all-new product. The 2020 model starts the second-generation and Indian carmaker will deliver some upgrades and changes. For the start, the dimensions are changed and XUV500 will be larger than before. This SUV will ride on a new monocoque platform that will make the model lighter and more versatile. Whatsoever, XUV500 will become the company’s first vehicle to deploy a monocoque architecture.
When it comes to styling and design, Mahindra XUV500 will be fresh and new. The carmaker will apply some inputs from Pininfarina and new SUV will look more sophisticated and sportier. Moreover, XUV500 looks very elegant and the design looks cleaner than before. The front end comes with a bolder front grille and additional chrome inserts.
Interior Department
From the inside, the 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will also undergo some major updates. First of all, this SUV will offer more interior room, especially in the third row. There will be room for seven passengers as before but this SUV will now offer more standard equipment. Not only that, Mahindra now delivers more quality materials and the interior design looks more radical.
The technology department is astonishing with plenty of connectivity features and the latest systems. The new huge infotainment system is installed and it looks the same as in the Tesla latest models Y.
Safety rating will be maximized and the comfort is better than ever. Quilted leather seats are incredibly comfy and both dashboard and door trims are sporting soft-touch materials only. That includes faux leather with contrast stitching.
2020 Mahindra XUV500 Engine
New 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will offer two drivetrain options. A 2.0-liter diesel unit will be new and it will deliver up to 182 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. That is more than the current output and new engine will comply with the latest emission norms. This unit comes with a both manual and automatic gearbox and it offers an optional 4WD setup.
A petrol variant is a 2.0-liter unit that returns 145 HP and 235 lb-ft of torque. The petrol engine will also deliver the same transmission choices as the diesel unit.
Price and Release Date
Mahindra will release its newest SUV by the end of 2020. The upcoming 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will face tough competitors, especially as most of the Asian carmakers are developing new models. For instance, Hyundai is building a new variant of the next-gen Creta model. Whatsoever, XUV500 will face some 5-seater rivals such as Volkswagen T-Cross, Skoda Vision-X based SUV and the MG Motor’s Hector model.
Interestingly, one year ago, Ford and Mahindra formed an alliance and Blue Oval carmaker could introduce an XUV500-based model in the near future. When it comes to pricing details, XUV500 will enter its second-generation with serious upgrades. For that reason, the price will be slightly increased. The base model will cost around $20,000 while upper trims may cost you around $30,000. New 2020 XUV500 model will arrive with the new platform, new diesel engine and serious exterior and interior upgrades.
