Jeep Wrangler is one of the most popular models in its segment. However, you can’t find too much off-road 4×4 models in the SUV category. Wrangler Unlimited is a story for itself and it largely departs from the rest of the trim levels. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be a carryover.
In 2018, Wrangler introduced a redesign and a new engine. 2019 Wrangler got new colors options and a couple of refreshments. For that reason, the 2020 Wrangler Unlimited will be a carryover. The best outcome we can hope for is subtle updates from the inside.
2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Styling
What is the difference between the regular Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited? For the start, the base model offers two doors, and the Unlimited variant four doors. Also, regular Wrangler can accommodate four passengers. Wrangler Unlimited has room for five persons. Visually, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be a carryover.
This model comes with relatively fresh changes from the last two years. That includes new headlights and taillights. New grille, and a new windshield that is easier to fold down. Styling and overall design will largely stay intact.
Cabin Improvements and Changes
Inside, things will remain as well. As we mentioned, the 2018 model came with a redesign and 2019 Wrangler introduce a couple of additional improvements. The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited won’t be refreshed. Unlike the rest of the trim levels, Unlimited has four-doors and five seats. Interior room is generous and legroom is ample.
The dashboard looks very simple and it sports smaller circular air vents. Center stack looks very modern, along with the three-spoke steering wheel. UConnect 3 infotainment system is the only feature that will get an update. However, the same 5-inch touchscreen remains standard.
Speaking of standard, this SUV comes with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 8-speaker audio system. Optionally, you can opt for the larger touchscreen. Safety rating won’t be improved. This is especially a problem with the high-riding SUVs such as Wrangler. Those types of SUVs never perform well, especially in the roll-over tests.
2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Engine
When it arrives, the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will offer the same engine lineup as its predecessor. A 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine remains standard. This engine is Jeep’s favorite and it is available in numerous models, mostly crossovers and SUVs. It can produce up to 285 HP and 260 lb-ft of torque. A 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will be optional. This engine comes with a turbocharger and it cranks out 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
Some speculations were mentioning a new 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine. However, this engine won’t be available in the United States if it arrives in the first place. The customers can choose between part-time and full-time four-wheel-drive system. On top of that, 6-speed manual transmission will be available. On the other hand, an 8-speed automatic gearbox remains standard.
Price and Release Date
The 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited will be available for the same price as the current model. However, the price will range from $35,000 to $45,000, depending on the chosen trim level. Release date is not official yet, but this SUV should arrive in the last quarter of 2019.
The 2020 Wrangler Unlimited will look to rival Toyota 4Runner and Land Rover Discovery Sport models. Of course, its biggest future rival, Ford Bronco, is about to arrive by the end of the year.
