Acura is ready to deploy the “Type S” models once again. The famous Type S variant is returning and it will be available on a couple of models. The 2020 Acura MDX Type S was spied testing, but that didn’t surprise us at all. Whatsoever, Acura confirmed the “Type S” at the Detroit Auto Show.
However, the carmaker didn’t specify which model will get the famous tuning. However, MDX is a perfect candidate. Besides that, RDX will surely get the same treatment. After the spy photos, things are more familiar. The 2020 MDX Type S will arrive with an extremely sporty look and great performances. Unfortunately, the interior was completely camouflaged.
Acura MDX Type S Spy Photos
Cameras caught new 2020 Acura MDX Type S during the road testing. The prototype was wearing a heavy camouflage so some details are not familiar yet. For the start, the dimensions and shape clearly suggested that we are looking at the MDX model. The base MDX SUV will introduce minor exterior changes. However, the sporty Type S variant will look brand-new. That means the Type S will depart from the base model in every segment.
The design looks more aggressive and extremely sporty. Sportiness is everywhere you look. That includes the whole front fascia, character lines, creases, and complete rear end. Aerodynamics are perfect. The front end will host a new grille and new set of headlights. Even the hood looks different. Rear part comes with a dual exhaust system which means Acura will install a new engine.
Interior Details
We can’t say how the interior will look. Whatsoever, we can’t see any similarities between the base model and the 2020 Acura MDX Type S. Interior was perfectly camouflaged and almost everything remains invisible. One thing that is certain is larger air vents on the center stack. It seems like most of the buttons are sitting lower than on the base model.
A start button is a perfect example. Unlike the base model, MDX Type S comes with premium upholstery so the comfort is on a higher level. Seats are looking very sporty, just like the steering wheel. MDX SUV comes with the five-star safety rating. We are sure that the MDX Type S will follow the same path.
New Turbocharged Engine
Not so long ago, Acura said something about the new V6 turbo engine. According to the latest reports, this engine is happening for sure but it is still in the production. Many car experts believe this unit will power new 2020 Acura MDX Type S. On top of that, dual exhaust pipes on the spy photos are clearly suggesting a turbocharged unit. However, don’t expect an extremely strong performance.
Acura said the plan is to deliver a turbo unit that won’t be overly aggressive. Company’s vision for the future is to deliver a sportier variant that will just improve the ride comfort and slightly improve overall performance. However, we are still waiting on the full engine specs.
2020 Acura MDX Type S Price and Release Date
Price of the 2020 Acura MDX Type S is still a mystery. However, the Type S will cost between $60,000 and $70,000. The sporty SUV will arrive with premium amenities and extremely attractive design. This model will also offer a standard all-wheel-drive system. This high-performance variant will hit the markets in the first quarter of 2020.
