Like the coupe GLA-class, the forthcoming 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class has a great and attractive design. According to Mercedes, this SUV shares its powertrain and chassis with the GLA model, as well as other features. However, unlike the mentioned model, the GLB offers a more upright design with additional cargo capacity. On top of that, it’s available with the third row of seats, offering accommodation for seven passengers.
Its cabin is modern, and Mercedes uses a touchscreen infotainment with Mercedes’s MBUX voice assistant as standard and more driver-assistance features through various option packages. As for powertrain, the new model is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 221 horsepower.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class Exterior
Slotting in just between the GLA and GLC models, the new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class has its own distinctive style. This model comes with relatively short overhangs, tall stature, and it looks good from most angles. Perhaps less important, the Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class as a subcompact crossover SUV shares similar dimensions with rivals such as the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Audi Q3.
This small SUV has an overall length of 182.4 inches, and it is 65.3 inches tall. The list of standard features is longer than we think it is, and GLB comes with aluminum roof rails, 18-inch alloy wheels, and full-LED lighting. You can also get optional exterior features like a panoramic sunroof, AMG body styling, and attractive 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels.
First Look Inside
The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class has a very spacious and modern interior. Unlike the GLA model, this one offers 20 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row and 62 cubic feet with seats folded down. That means this SUV is almost equal to that of the BMW X3.
The entry-level comes standard with power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel. However, you can get a heated seat, as will ventilated ones, for additional money. As most of Mercedes models, you can equip your GLB with luxury features such as leather upholstery and interior ambient lighting. As for technologies, the GLB comes standard with a 7.0-inch digital gauge display and 7.0-inch touchscreen. There is also an option to get a dual 10.3-inch screen on the Premium package. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four USB-C ports, and Bluetooth are all standard.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class Engine Specs and Fuel Rating
Beneath the hood, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class is available with one engine option. This model uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 221 horsepower. As far as we know, the engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and you can choose either front or all-wheel drive.
With front-wheel-drive, the EPA-estimated fuel economy rating is 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined. However, if you go for the all-wheel-drive version, the fuel is estimated at 30 mpg. Comparing those numbers with the BMW X1, the GLB has a slightly lower EPA-estimated mileage. There is also the Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 variant that dominates with its 302-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder under the hood.
2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class Price, Release Date
The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLB-class is an SUV that will be available with various trims and packages. The entry-level model GLB250 starts at $39,700, offering a great package of standard equipment. However, if this is not enough for you, the manufacturer offers GLB250 4Matic with a price of $41,700.
As we mentioned, the upcoming GLB will continue to share many elements with the GLA model. Overall, the styling is cool, and GLB offers spacious first and second-row seating, as well as many high-tech features. We’re expecting this small SUV to go on sale next year.
