Looking for a reliable SUV with tradition and reliability? Well, the 2021 VW Tiguan is perhaps the answer you needed. Volkswagen will release its new SUV later next year. On top of that, we can expect numerous changes on this compact crossover. Tiguan is present for over a decade now and it really offers anything you need. Interior room is very generous and comfort is guaranteed. Moreover, the cabin is very tech-rich and modern.
Safety is another strong category, just like Tiguan’s warranty. Exterior looks very upscale and a new model will be built on that. Some parts of the design are looking sporty while some others are stylish. As for the performances, the 2021 Tiguan has everything. Numerous options are available under the hood. For that reason, you can choose fuel efficiency or stronger performances on a new Tiguan R version. Finally, the hybrid drivetrain is a very probable outcome for the next year.
2021 VW Tiguan Facelift
The all-new 2021 VW Tiguan will offer cleaner and more subtle design. Some parts of the body are looking very distinctive. On the other hand, you can spot plenty of sportiness and stylish features. For 2021, Volkswagen will introduce sharper lines in the back. Tiguan takes a wider stance with a simple front fascia that looks impressive.
The LED lighting system is available as standard on SEL and Premium trim levels. That includes daytime running lights, headlights and taillights. If you want more sportiness, opt for the Tiguan R model. This model really looks sporty and aggressive, but we’ll get to that later.
Tiguan Offer One of the Roomiest Cabins in the Segment
Company’s new compact SUV will be very spacious. The race is between this model and the new Nissan Rogue. Whatsoever, those two are the only models in the compact SUV segment with a third-row. Of course, don’t expect ample legroom in the third row. Surely, larger families will find Tiguan as a perfect choice. Comfort is truly great, even in the base model. Seats are very supportive and front seats are offering lumbar support. As always before, cloth upholstery comes as standard. Whatsoever, only SEL Premium trim level offers a standard leather upholstery.
On the other hand, all trim levels are offering a standard Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For the next year, the 2021 VW Tiguan will introduce small interior updates. That includes minor changes on the dashboard. Moreover, an update of the displays and infotainment features will happen as well. A 6.5-inch touchscreen is still present and it is standard. Volkswagen will offer new interior scheme next to the existing ones. The famous combination of black and orange colors is available once again and it is perhaps the most popular interior scheme.
2021 VW Tiguan Powertrain
If the latest rumors are true, new 2021 VW Tiguan could get an all-new powertrain option. This compact SUV will continue to offer a standard 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. This unit delivers 185 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. It looks good, but have in mind that Tiguan is the heaviest model in the compact SUV segment. For that reason, don’t expect great fuel efficiency. On the other hand, fuel economy is still average for the segment.
German automaker still offers a standard front-wheel-drive system. However, a 4Motion AWD configuration will be optional. The turbocharged engine delivers 22 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway. We are still waiting for VW to confirm the all-new engine that will be optional. The 2021 Tiguan will surely offer a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. However, a hybrid version will combine a 1.4-liter gasoline engine and the electric motors. This mix will generate around 220 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. Logically, Tiguan PHEV will offer almost 40 mpg combined.
VW Tiguan R
Volkswagen will also focus on its performance division. The forthcoming 2021 VW Tiguan R will also get further improvements. The new model has been spotted during the test drive. First thing you’ll see on the spy photos are new exhausts.
That strongly confirms the speculations about the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that generates 296 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, visual changes are hard to spot under the heavy camo. Surely, we can expect even sportier appearance with a couple of upgrades. Interior is also a mystery at the moment.
Estimated Cost and Availability
The price of the brand-new 2021 VW Tiguan will jump but not significantly. The new model will cost slightly below $27,000. Thanks to numerous trim levels this compact SUV could cost drastically more.
Tiguan PHEV model will cost between $34,000 and $38,000. Remember, Tiguan still offers great warranty and it is one of the two compact SUVs with a third-row. On top of that, its R variant will arrive as well. Volkswagen will release new 2021 Tiguan in the second half of 2020.
