2021 VW Atlas: Rendering, Changes

The forthcoming 2021 VW Atlas is a seven-seat mid-size SUV that will finally get more significant upgrades. The 2021 model will hit the dealerships later next year. Atlas offers a quality ride, large cargo area, impressive interior room, and easy third-row access. However, many fans are still waiting for a more efficient engine and more luxury.

We’re not gonna lie, Atlas isn’t a luxury SUV. It lacks plenty of stuff in order to compete with more premium competition. For 2021, Atlas SUV will get styling upgrades and interior will get more technology. Performance-wise, this SUV will offer the same engine lineup.

Renderings

The spy shots for the 2020 model are available. However, we could see that the arriving Atlas won’t be significantly changed. However, the all-new 2021 VW Atlas will be visually updated. So far, rendering pictures are the only source of information. On the same photos, we can see larger grille and new headlight units. Generally, the complete front fascia is upgraded and it definitely looks better.

Lights are now vertically-oriented and are pushed to the corners. Volkswagen could also provide new exterior colors and redesigned taillights. This could be a huge success as the Atlas SUV is gaining more and more popularity. However, we still need to wait for the official release from the German automaker.

Interior Features

The upcoming 2021 VW Atlas is available in three trim levels, S, SE, and SEL. In our opinion, upper trims aren’t affordable at all as you don’t get the feel of luxury. For that reason, sticking with the base model is the fairest variant. You will get cloth upholstery and 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. On top of that, Atlas comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Various driver-assistance and safety features are available as well. Optionally, you can load a 12-speaker Fender Premium sound system or leather upholstery. However, the comfort is more than solid and the front seats are very supportive.

Engine Specs

Under the hood, Volkswagen will keep the things intact. A 3.6-liter is an optional engine choice and it produces up to 276 horsepower. On the other hand, base 2021 VW Atlas offers a 2.0-liter turbo-four that generates 235 hp. Front-wheel-drive setup is available as standard. Loading AWD system is more than recommendable as it provides better ride quality. This three-row SUV offers an 8-speed automatic gearbox and it can tow up to 5,500 pounds.

Thanks to a 117.3-inch wheelbase, Atlas acts perfectly on the bumps or at the high speeds. Generally, performance is good, no matter which engine you opt for. On the other hand, many fans are disappointed with such a limited power and are seeking for something hotter. Still, Volkswagen decided to stick with the current engine lineup.

2021 VW Atlas Price and Release Date

The price of the new mid-size SUV will start at $31,500. We are still waiting for the official details from the Volkswagen. The 2021 VW Atlas will go on sale in the second half of 2020. There will be a couple of trim levels and range-topping trims are priced at $45,000 and above.
