Both engines will use a Mercedes’ EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. This system consists of a 48-volt electrified system and an integrated starter generator that improves efficiency. The all-wheel-drive system also comes standard. As with many new vehicles, the engine of the latest GLS uses a start/stop system that saves fuel. Towing is also good and the new Mercedes-Benz GLS can maximum tow 7,700 pounds with either engine.
Mercedes-AMG GLS 63
High-performance Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 will also be available and this version is the strongest one in the GLS line. Thanks to a powerful V8 powertrain, this model delivers an outstanding 603-horsepower. The same engine powers Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S model.
Price and Release Date
The newest 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS (MSRP) starts at $70,150 for a base 450 model. However, going up to GLS 580 that deploys twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, the price will jump to almost $99,000.
Basically, fully loaded GLS 580 can kiss $130,000. In the same category, the latest BMW X7 starts just a hair beneath the GLS. However, models like Lincoln Navigator or Cadillac Escalade are a few hundred dollars less.
