After so many hypes about recently introduced the Tevascan EV model at Frankfurt International Motor Show, the Spanish manufacturer has just launched the new 2021 Cupra Formentor SUV. The forthcoming model sits on the VW Group’s MQB platform that is also used on the latest Tiguan model.
However, compared with the Tiguan model, the new Formentor looks much sportier and more coupe-like. This model is available with two powertrains and one of them is a plug-in hybrid. Besides that, the cabin is techy and comes with many upscale materials.
2021 Cupra Formentor Seductive Styling
The outside design of the newest 2021 Cupra Formentor is sporty and stylish. This high-performance SUV is based on the Formentor concept car that has been unveiled a year ago. Styling is excellent and we noticed the graphics of the LED taillights that look fancier than on the concept one. The grill is also revised and front fascia looks amazing.
As we have already mentioned, the upcoming Formentor SUV rolls on the famous VW Group’s MQB platform that is used on many nowadays SUVs. The latest Tiguan sits on the same platform. However, compared to it, the new Formentor looks much more coupe-like and it provides more aggressive styling. Dimensionally, this compact two-row people mover measures a wheelbase of 105.1 inches (2,680 millimeters).
Interior Layout
Inside, the new 2021 Cupra Formentor will differ from the rest of its family. This model offers a very techy interior followed by many upscale materials. It comes with two rows of seats and can place five occupants. Sporty bucket seats up front provide great comfort and we like the new flat-bottom steering wheel that comes standard. As we mentioned, there are many new techs inside. The new model offers two 12.0-inch screens and serves as the instrument cluster. The Formentor also offers 15.9 cubic feet (450 liters) of cargo space behind the rear seat.
Like the many nowadays SUVs, the upcoming Formentor will come with an array of electronic driver-assist features. This model as a standard package offers adaptive cruise control with traffic sign recognition, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and more.
2021 Cupra Formentor Engine Specs
The all-new 2021 Cupra Formentor is the SUV that is based on VW Group’s MQB platform. Under the hood, this model is available with two engine options. Naturally, both of them are high-performance units.
The first powertrain that powers this SUV is also under the Golf R model. Furthermore, the powerful base model consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that delivers a total of 305 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This setup comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel-drive system as standard.
Plug-in Hybrid
The optional engine is a plug-in hybrid. According to the latest news the plug-in hybrid powertrain has been borrowed from the redesigned Golf GTE version. The plug-in hybrid variant uses a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 that generates 148 hp (110 kW) and is connected to a single 114 hp (85 kW) electric motor. Thank this combination this setup produces 242 hp and 295 lb-ft.
Like the base model, the plug-in hybrid will use the same 7-speed DCT and AWD system. It also features a 13-kilowatt-hour battery that sits under the rear passenger’s floor and provides 31 miles of zero-emission driving.
2021 Cupra Formentor Release Date and Price
The upcoming 2021 Cupra Formentor is the SUV that offers a great look and beautiful cabin. Also, there are two engine options and one of them is a plug-in hybrid. Deliveries of the Formentor will happen later this year in Europe.
Sadly, there are no plans to introduce Cupra Formentor on the United States soil anytime soon. Price is not yet available, but from some rumors, it will not pass a $25,000 mark.
