Finally, all of the details are available after Toyota presented its Highlander model at the 2019 New York Auto Show. The fourth-generation 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid is about to arrive. This three-row crossover will hit the roads with the all-new exterior and interior design.
Highlander will continue to ride on a modified TNGA platform. However, thanks to the latest modifications, this platform can finally accommodate a hybrid drivetrain. Besides hybrid, Highlander will offer a gasoline V6 engine. Styling is much better now and the new model looks bolder than the previous one. From the inside, the cabin is completely redesigned.
2020 Toyota Highlander New Styling
The three-row crossover will suffer a total exterior revamp. The 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will look the same as the base gasoline version. This crossover will continue to ride on the TNGA platform. However, this architecture is modified so it can accommodate a hybrid drivetrain. The same platform underpins models such as new Corolla, Camry, and RAV4.
Styling is fresh and it looks perfect. Thanks to the latest changes, the Highlander model looks bolder than its predecessor. The front now sports a similar styling as the RAV4 model. That includes a larger grille and a pair of sharper and angular headlights. The same story continues in the back with the LED taillights. The 2020 Highlander is the latest model that received a total redesign that follows the company’s newest design language.
Interior Redesign
From the inside, the 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid comes with an all-new design. That includes the new interior layout, more modern shapes, and newest technology features. The biggest change is probably a new 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. However, this massive display is available only on the range-topping trim level. The rest of the trims will continue to use an 8-inch unit.
Both displays are available with the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay systems. New materials are available as well. Just like the touchscreen, materials are also tied to a specific trim level. On the other hand, Highlander will get more safety equipment that is available on all of the trims. The 2020 Highlander will continue to offer three rows of seats and it will be able to accommodate eight passengers.
Hybrid Drivetrain
The 3.5-liter V6 naturally-aspirated engine will remain standard engine choice. This unit is producing up to 295 HP and 263 lb-ft of torque. Also, powerful V6 comes with 8-speed automatic transmission. However, thanks to the modified platform, Highlander will finally offer a hybrid engine. The 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will deploy a 3.5-liter four-cylinder engine in a combination with two electric motors.
Also, a battery pack is in the offer. This output will deliver up to 306 horsepower. On top of that, Toyota estimates a fuel economy that delivers 34 mpg. Front-wheel-drive comes as standard and all-wheel-drive setup will be optional.
