Italian automaker will introduce further upgrades to its 500X crossover. This model is closely related to the Jeep Renegade and both models are produced in the same plant. The 2020 Fiat 500X is a subcompact crossover with very interesting appearance. To be honest, this model is more of a hatchback. But thanks to extra ground clearance, Fiat 500X is dubbed as a crossover.
This subcompact model is present for five years now. The 2019 version got slight upgrades and Fiat will continue this tradition in 2020. We can expect subtle changes in terms of styling and design. Interior will get small upgrades in the technology department. Under the hood, things will stay intact. Basically, we could say the 2020 500X model is a carryover.
Exterior Facelift
As you probably remember, the current model arrived with a couple of tweaks. Revised taillights and headlights were perhaps the highlights of the latest changes. The 2020 Fiat 500X won’t introduce any significant changes and upgrades. The new model is practically a carry-over. Italian automaker offers 12 different exterior paints and numerous standard and optional features. The customers can choose between the standard 16 or optional 17 and 18-inch alloy wheels.
As we already wrote, the 500X model is a subcompact crossover. However, this model is closer to the hatchback. Thanks to extra ground clearance, this model is classified as a crossover. Interestingly, Fiat 500X will ride on the existing platform. This architecture is present since 2005. The 2020 model will gain subtle changes only. That includes sharper lines on the hood and side doors.
Interior Changes and New Safety Features
The 2019 model arrived with a new instrument cluster and its 3.5-inch information screen. The same cluster is present once again and it is still analog. The steering wheel is also relatively new so there won’t be any changes in this category. The only upgrades will happen in the technology department. New 2020 Fiat 500X will get better safety rating and new high-tech features.
That includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A 7-inch touchscreen comes with audio streaming, voice recognition, and Bluetooth. When it comes to safety, this crossover will get traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring. Besides that, the rest of the cabin is unchanged. Despite the three headrests, we recommend two passengers in the second row.
Engine and Transmission Specs
Under the hood, things will remain. The 2020 Fiat 500X will offer the same engine that was introduced last year. A 1.3-liter four-cylinder MultiAir III engine comes with a turbocharger. This unit is producing 177 horsepower and 220 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel-drive setup comes as standard.
All trim levels are offering optional all-wheel-drive configuration. However, markets such as the UK market will get numerous drivetrain options. The customers can choose between petrol and diesel units. Back to the 1.3-liter engine, this unit is available with an almost new 9-speed automatic transmission.
2020 Fiat 500X Price and Release Date
We must admit, this subcompact crossover looks cute and gorgeous. It is available in numerous trim levels and it offers good performance. However, the 2020 Fiat 500X never stood a chance against rivals such as Mazda CX-5 or Honda CR-V.
On top of that, the price isn’t that much affordable. New Fiat 500X will start at $22,000 and range-topping trim will cost $31,000. On the other hand, Fiat 500X is a better choice than the remaining two Fiat 500 models. This crossover will go on sale this fall.
