Audi has no plans to stop with expanding its crossover lineup. Finally, the 2020 Audi Q1 is about to arrive. This baby crossover will slot below the small Q2 model. Just like the Q2, Audi Q1 will also ride on the famous MQB platform. It will feature a coupe-like design and it will look stylish.
Small crossovers are a perfect replacement for regular cars. So Audi’s move to introduce new subcompact crossover makes perfect sense. Interior will be very modern and under the hood, we can expect numerous drivetrain options. Audi Q1 is planned for 2020 so we can expect a hybrid version as well.
2020 Audi Q1 MQB Platform
The 2020 Audi Q1 will arrive as a small crossover. It will feature a coupe-like design. That means it will borrow plenty of cues from the Audi A1 model. On the other hand, some cues are similar or the same as on the Q2 crossover. Whatsoever, Q1 will ride on the MQB platform. Classic Audi’s grille will be in the offer but it will be slightly squared-off.
The front fascia comes with satin and chrome accents and it looks very modern and upscale. The rear window looks pretty small. However, Audi will offer a backup camera, just in case. We are yet to find out the full exterior specifications. No doubt, Audi will surely deliver another premium crossover.
Interior Looks Familiar
From the inside, the 2020 Audi Q1 will look very modern and upscale. While we wait for official details, we can introduce familiar stuff for now. The dashboard will be slightly wider so it can accommodate larger display and larger air vents. Circular vents are looking very stylish and interesting. Q1 will be similar to the Q2 model. However, it will offer different interior schemes. List of standard and optional features is almost the same as on the larger Q2 model.
That means we can expect the same safety rating or even better. There will be room for five passengers. Audi says the interior will be spacious for the subcompact crossover segment. We are yet to find out how many trim levels will be in the offer. Surely, upper trims will look extremely premium and luxurious.
Engine Specs
To this moment, Audi didn’t specify which engines will power the arriving Q1 model. However, we can expect fuel-friendly options with a solid number of horses. German carmaker likes to offer a wide range of TFSI and TDI engines with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmissions. Thanks to the MQB platform, the front-wheel-drive system will come as standard.
Of course, Audi’s iconic Quattro will be available as an option. The Q1 crossover is scheduled for 2020, so in the meantime, Audi will probably announce hybrid drivetrain as well. However, it is too early to speculate about the hybrid variant. On the other hand, Audi will surely offer a hotter engine with more power. However, we are not sure if this engine will be a part of the high-performance SQ1 variant. There is still a huge possibility for Audi to offer turbocharged unit as an option.
2020 Audi Q1 Release Date and Price
New subcompact crossover will arrive next summer. Its the price is still a mystery, but not such a huge one. If we know the larger Q3 SUV starts at $33,000 and Q2 is slightly pricier, the 2020 Audi Q1 will start at a similar range.
We can bet that this model will be available in a range between $30,000 and $35,000. Anyway, it will be more affordable than the BMW X1 or Jaguar E-Pace.
