The all-new 2019 Toyota Sequoia is a full-size SUV that is still not forgotten. While the sales are not on the desirable level, this SUV still has plenty to offer. In order to return to the competition, Toyota gave Sequoia a minor facelift. There is no complete revamp yet, but the new updates should do enough. That includes some exterior and interior changes such as a new nose, new gauge cluster and better Safety Sense-P system.
On the other hand, the 2019 Sequoia will look no different than the model from 2008. Yes, the second-generation of this SUV is over ten years old. Moreover, Sequoia will share a lot with the Tundra pickup, which includes the same engine and similar interior. Great for families, the Sequoia SUV offers great hauling capabilities and three rows of seating. Towing is great and even the all-wheel-drive system is available.
2019 Toyota Sequoia exterior updates
Can you imagine the maximum of refreshments one vehicle can get? Well, this is it, and the only logical move from the Toyota is complete revamp both in and out. The 2019 Toyota Sequoia will arrive with a new front end that really does look beautiful, but the rest of the exterior will stay intact.
The grille is sharper than before and it sports new horizontal slats and gorgeous accents. Those accents are nicely incorporated with the all-new headlights. The headlights are now available in LED technology, both low and high beams. Moreover, even the daytime running lights get LED treatment. Fog lights will suffer the same thing and the surrounds around the fog lights are looking refreshing. The new black panel in the bumper features a pre-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and adaptive cruise control.
To the sides, new Sequoia will remain the same. And while the Tundra pickup gained more muscles and modern cues, the 2019 Sequoia is still looking overweight and swollen. The rear part is no different as you can find the same rounded taillights and literally everything is the same as before. Of course, the appearance is not everything.
Equipment
The 2019 Toyota Sequoia is coming with great equipment such as easily accessible tow hooks and optional aluminum skid plates. Side steps are standard so getting in is now much easier. The receiver hitch is also new, just like the roll-down rear window.
2019 Toyota Sequoia interior
The changes inside the cabin are minor for the upcoming 2019 Toyota Sequoia. Japanese carmaker did so little for the interior, unfortunately. Just like its predecessors, new Sequoia comes with no in-dash technologies and systems such as Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The wireless charger is not available in the 2019 Toyota Sequoia and there is no big infotainment screen.
Instead, this SUV comes with a 6.1-inch touchscreen that offers poor graphics in lower resolution. Another display is 4.2-inch TFT that sits in the gauge cluster. The dashboard still holds the same design as before ten years ago. To be more precise, the 4.2-inch TFT display is an actual update for the upcoming model. In comparison, rivals such as Ford Expedition or Chevy Tahoe are all offering a new 8.0-inch touchscreen is high-resolution.
The HVAC controls are looking great, but those controls seem to be far away from the driver’s seat. Even the infotainment screen is too far, which makes it hard to use.
Cabin is roomy
On the other hand, this SUV is a perfect family vehicle. There is room for up to seven passengers across the three rows. The legroom is ample, just like the headroom. If you opt for a six-seat configuration, the room is even better at the back.
2019 Toyota Sequoia powertrain and transmission
Just like the rest of the vehicle, even the engine will stay the same. The same engine means the same suspension and transmission too. Just like the Tundra pickup, the 2019 Toyota Sequoia will come with a 5.7-liter V8. This aging unit is capable of producing 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque.
This V8 features a variable valve timing system and it uses a 6-speed automatic transmission. Surprisingly, shifting gears feels smooth and quiet. A part-time four-wheel drive is optional while the rear-wheel drive setup is standard.
The A-Trac system is available and you can activate this system by pressing the traction control button. This system will use an individual brake controls in order to stop the wheel from spinning.
Fuel economy and towing capacity
Fuel economy of the 2019 Toyota Sequoia is rated at 13 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. For the end, thanks to the powerful engine, Sequoia is capable of towing up to 7,400 pounds.
2019 Toyota Sequoia release date and price
The full-size SUV 2019 Toyota Sequoia will go on sale in the first half of 2019. The starting price of the model will be around $44,000. The TRD Sport will cost about $52,000 and more. Platinum model is a top-range trim and it is priced at $66,000. Slightly below the Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe, new Sequoia is still pricier than the Nissan Armada.
