It seems that the forthcoming 2024 Ford Explorer is not likely to get a complete overhaul next year. However, it does seem that the upcoming SUV will receive some aesthetic and technological upgrades and changes. In case you didn’t know, the Explorer is a popular midsize 3-row SUV that is available with a wide range of engine choices.
The lineup also includes a fuel-sipping hybrid, which is the highlight on offer. It’s possible, though not officially confirmed, that a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and EV variants will join the lineup at some point, too. We’re expecting the entry-level Ford Explorer to have a starting price of approximately $33,000.
Will the 2024 Ford Explorer Be Redesigned?
Compared to the outgoing model, the new 2024 Ford Explorer will depart only in terms of appearance. Unfortunately, there are only a couple of spy shots where the caught prototype is wearing heavy camouflage.
We certainly expect it to introduce an updated front fascia with a new grille and headlights. The ST variant will get the most of the upgrades. This variant looks sportier thanks to many modifications. Ford will also introduce numerous optional packages.
Modern Interior
The new 2024 Ford Explorer is a great option if you’re looking for a midsize three-row SUV. This model offers a modern and spacious cabin for up to seven passengers. It also comes standard with the intuitive SYNC 4 infotainment system, which is already one of the best systems in its class. So, don’t be surprised if Ford adds more standard tech touches than before.
We generally expect to see standard wireless charging, wireless smartphone connectivity, and a 12-inch infotainment screen. Safety is also enhanced by the Co-Pilot360 driver assistance features. The package includes forward collision warning and blind-spot monitoring, trailer sway control, hill start assist, post-collision braking, and a comprehensive set of airbags.
2024 Ford Explorer Engine Options
The new 2024 Ford Explorer is powered by a turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine, producing 300 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. A new option is the automatic stop/restart function for this engine which saves fuel while idling. However, a more powerful and fuel-friendly hybrid is offered in the Limited and Platinum models. This model uses a naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6 engine with an electric motor. It produces a combined total output of 318 horsepower.
A turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 powers the ST model, and it makes 400 horsepower. It is worth mentioning that all-wheel drive (AWD) is available as an option. Every Explorer features a 10-speed automatic transmission, which is rated as one of the best in the market. Besides the mentioned engines, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant is on the way, just like the EV model, too.
2024 Ford Explorer Price, Release Date
The base 2024 Ford Explorer will reportedly have rear-wheel drive and start at $33,000 plus a destination charge. All-wheel drive is another $2,000. We recommend stepping up to the XLT trim, which is around $35k.
The hybrid, on the other hand, in the rear-drive Limited version, is over $50k. The top Platinum trim, which comes standard with all-wheel drive, is $55,740. The most expensive Explorer models are in the same ballpark as approaching luxury SUVs like the Lexus RX, Acura MDX, and Genesis GV80.
