The latest 2022 Hyundai Kona finally gets a big update since its first release in late 2017. Interestingly, the update covers the standard Kona and the Kona Electric models.
Long story short, both versions look amazing, featuring significant exterior visual changes and similar interior upgrades, too. Generally, the most noticeable difference is a giant, new split grille that dominates on the front. The interior will also receive a light refresh that includes more tech and the new 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Under the hood, the new Kona offers a 4-cylinder engine, turbocharged V6 engine, and the most efficient electric model that delivers a 258-mile range on a single charge.
2022 Hyundai Kona Exterior Details
The new 2022 Hyundai Kona enters into the subcompact class featuring more attractive styling than its predecessor. As we expected from a mid-cycle refresh, the latest Hyundai Kona wears mildly revised lights and a more modern grille. Overall, there appear to be more comprehensive cosmetic changes than we saw on its predecessor.
The Kona’s signature eyebrow running lights are also reshaped, and they perfectly fit into a face with more curves and angles. However, on the car’s tail, we didn’t manage to see any notable changes at all. The same attractive and unique LED taillights are present as the body-colored bumper. However, the N-line package brings a sportier design that includes body-color trim, cooler-looking 18-inch wheels, a more aggressive front/rear fascia, and much more.
Cabin Adopts a Few Upgrades
Inside, the 2022 Hyundai Kona adopts a few upgrades. Hyundai keeps the same setting layout, but it added more premium materials and techs. Basically, the new Kona includes more upscale appearing finishes around featuring a new, giant 10.3-inch touchscreen. Generally, this is a big update over today’s Kona that has a 7.0-inch unit standard.
On top of that, Kona offers a standard 10.3-inch digital gauge cluster that replaces the previous analog setup. Like with many of today’s cars, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. However, the next big thing is more legroom for second-row occupants and more cargo room.
2022 Hyundai Kona Engine Specs
The standard 2022 Hyundai Kona is available with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 147-horsepower. However, the N-Line version is available, boasting a smaller and more powerful turbocharged 1.6-liter version. Unlike the first one, this performance unit generates 195 horsepower. Moreover, both versions use the same 7-speed automatic transmission.
The most economical electric model features the same single-motor configuration delivering 201 horsepower and 291 pound-feet of torque. Like the previous model, we should also expect the same 258-mile range on a single charge.
2022 Hyundai Kona Release Date and Price
The redesigned 2022 Hyundai Kona looks more attractive than before, for sure. This model features a revised grille and a more modern cabin with plenty of additional features. Generally, in the same class are many rivals, but not many of them are recognized as the new Kona.
However, as for the release date and price, Hyundai says that both the gas and electric variants will be available in spring this year. Unfortunately, the pricing of the updated models is not yet available.
