The 2022 GMC Terrain has just been unveiled, featuring refreshed styling. After so many years of waiting, this SUV will finally get the updates that it deserves. The new Terrain gains a more attractive look, many new features, and for the first time, a new rugged-looking trim level called AT4. However, some things will remain the same, and an engine upgrade won’t happen this time.
This model continues to be powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four with 170 horsepower as the only engine option. If you didn’t know, the previous turbo 2.0-liter four is last time offered in 2019, and it will not return at all.
2022 GMC Terrain New AT4 Trim
The updated crossover, the 2022 GMC Terrain, has received some notable exterior changes. Generally, the most exciting news is both AT4 and Denali trims. As you probably know, AT4 is new to the Terrain for 2022.
Interestingly, the GMC has just released a new batch of photos, and we must admit, the Terrain provides more eye-catching details than ever. All Terrains look a bit different, with revised front fascia and reshaped headlights and taillights. The new AT4 package looks attractive, and it adds over regular model trim-specific wheels, a black chrome grille, black wheel arches, and badging. This model also features a front skid plate giving this model more off-road stance. On the other hand, the Terrain Denali is trim focuses giving more luxury with subtle styling and more standard features.
Interior Changes
GMC claims that the upcoming Terrain will feature more quality materials and soft touches. The officials also say the interior has different upholstery and trim pieces. However, the same seating layout form remains, and this small SUV comes with two rows of seats. Some rumors circulate that we might also see a three-row version called L shortly after the standard model release.
Either way, expect all models to come standard with the larger infotainment system, Wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capabilities. The manufacturer also reveals that the new head-up display should be available for certain trim levels and standards on top-dog Denali.
2022 GMC Terrain Powertrain Specs
Under the bonnet, the forthcoming 2022 GMC Terrain SUV model will be unfortunately offered with just single engine choice. This SUV uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, running on regular gasoline. It is linked to a 9-speed automatic transmission, and it can generate 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Like the case with the outgoing model, the new one will feature the same front-wheel drive (FWD) as the standard setup, but all-wheel drive (AWD) can get optionally.
However, there are some gossips that fuel economy will be improved over the current model. The existing Terrain is EPA city/highway fuel economy rated 25/30 mpg (FWD), 25/28 mpg (AWD).
2022 GMC Terrain Release Date and Price
The latest 2022 GMC Terrain will arrive refreshed, and that’s the biggest news. GMC claims that we should expect this model to hit the markets later in the year.
We don’t yet have prices for the Terrain, but we expect it to cost a bit higher than the outgoing model that starts from $26,195 for a front-wheel-drive base model. However, the fully-loaded all-wheel-drive Terrain Denali might pass $40k this time.
