The new iNext SUV aka 2021 BMW iX5 is caught testing and we have some exclusive photos. According to many speculations over the internet, the upcoming model will most probably adopt iX5 nameplate.
On top of that, it will be all-electric. The new electric SUV has been spied testing close to the Arctic Circle and is covered in heavy camouflage. However, by the first look, we can see many similarities with the base model X5.
2021 BMW iX5 Is Dimensionaly Same As the Base X5
The exterior design of the newest 2021 BMW iX5 will be utterly different than the nowadays SUVs. As we have already mentioned, the test mule is caught testing in the Arctic Circle, and the whole body of iX5 is heavily camouflaged. In terms of dimensions, the electric SUV is close to a base X5.
However, most of the difference is that iX5 underpinning the company’s latest flexible architecture that will be used on all electric and ICE-powered vehicles in the future. At first glance, the BMW iX5 hosts a pair of slim headlights along with a fake kidney grille. Moreover, it will most likely adopt the same kidney style and rear design language as the concept model. On top of that, the side profile reveals stylish aluminium wheels.
First Impressions Inside
The cabin of the upcoming 2021 BMW iX5 will be one of the best according to officials. Moreover, we can expect an upscale cabin with lots of techs inside. From the latest spy photos, the dashboard will host two giant curved display that’s highly customizable.
Also, comfort will be higher than in the base X5. Like the base model, the new electric SUV will also come with the two rows of seats and enough rooms for five passengers. The unique two-spoke polygonal steering wheel with flat upper and lower sections for smoother transitions between automated and regular driving comes standard.
2021 BMW iX5 Powertrain
The all-new member 2021 BMW iX5 is an electric SUV that will deliver great performances. According to the manufacturer, the iX5 will use the same powertrain technology as the upcoming i4 and the iX3 models. The electric motor will be rear-mounted, while the battery pack will obviously be placed under the floor of BMW’s flexible architecture.
BMW also promises an impressive driving range of around 373 miles (600 km). On top of that, acceleration is the next big thing, and the manufacturer estimated it from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in around 4 seconds. The final version will definitively bring a wide range of different power outputs and battery capacities.
Release Date and Price
The testing mule of 2021 BMW iX5 reveals many similarities with the base X5 model. According to the latest news, BMW will reveal the iX5 sometime towards the end of the year, with sales to begin early in 2021.
Dimensionally, this model is almost the same as X5. However, because of that, it will compete against the models like the Audi E-Tron, Mercedes EQC, Tesla Model X and perhaps even the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Price is not yet available, but we can expect to be revealed soon.
