The 2019 Jeep Grand Commander is an SUV that can accommodate up to seven passengers. After its discount in 2010, the return happened this year. However, the return of the 2018 model hits only the China car markets. This may come as sad news for the fans of this SUV as it was a global seven-seat SUV.
On the other hand, the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander model will hit the rest of the world and it will bring plenty of aggressiveness. The new model will focus on towing and hauling and the off-road adventures are in the second plan. It is yet unknown when will this model arrive in the US, but it will hit the American soil as the Jeep Wagoneer. Both Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be in the offer. For now, only one engine is in the offer, however, both front-wheel and all-wheel driving setups are available.
Generally, this SUV definitely deserves a Jeep’s badge as it was a more than the famous model. The ride is high and the boxy shape is looking brilliant. Sadly, a V6 engine is not available on most of the company’s models.
2019 Jeep Grand Commander is similar to the Grand Cherokee model
While brand-new, the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander will keep its shape and overall look. Perhaps, the best comparison is the one with the Grand Cherokee model, as both are looking very similar. These similarities can be seen especially in the front end that comes with seven-slat grille and exactly the same headlights.
However, LED daytime running lights are looking longer and a little bit higher. The air intakes are big and sporty and the foglamps are rectangular. To the side, we can see another similarity between the Commander and Cherokee models. The wheel arches are squared-off and the waistline is pretty high. However, the 2019 Commander becomes different as the body lines are moving toward the rear part.
The overall shape looks boxy and rugged. The rear part of the new Commander is unique. The tailgate is sporty and vertical while the taillights are smaller. Chrome trims are present around those taillights and above the license plate. The bumper holds a dual exhaust pipe. The length of this SUV is 191.8 inches, which makes Commander larger than Cherokee model.
2019 Jeep Grand Commander interior and amenities
The interior is comfortable and it brings plenty of details. The 2019 Jeep Grand Commander will also share some cues and amenities with the Jeep Grand Cherokee model. That includes center stack, dashboard and A/C vents. On the other hand, the vents are slightly wider and the controls under the infotainment system are also wider. Infotainment system adds 8-inch touchscreen with great graphics and the navigation system.
The instrument cluster of the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander looks simple and it sports analog dials. Sadly, this version of the UConnect infotainment system does not support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Leather seats come with higher trim levels, while the base model comes with the cloth seats.
Wood trims and pieces are looking fake, to be honest, but on the other hand, the two-tone interior scheme is gorgeous. The third row of seats provides enough legroom for two passengers. Both second and third row are folding flat in order to create better cargo area.
Speaking of the cargo area, the room is massive. Tri-zone climate control will be standard and it provides comfort in all of the rows.
Safety options
Safety is great and 2019 Jeep Grand Commander adds plenty of safety equipment. That includes lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and forward collision alert.
2019 Jeep Grand Commander engine specs
While the rest of the Jeep’s models, the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander does not offer a V6 engine. Whatsoever, this SUV will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder drivetrain. The same unit is powering the latest Jeep Wrangler.
This output creates 230 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque. There is a huge possibility that there will be an optional engine, but for now, Commander offers only one drivetrain. The U.S. version will for sure get a diesel variant, but again, we’ll have to wait for official confirmation and specs. The 2.0-liter is available with the 9-speed automatic transmission.
Front-wheel drive is standard on the 2019 Jeep Grand Commander, but you can opt for an optional all-wheel-drive configuration. Even the suspension setup is unknown at the moment. However, we are sure that this SUV is focused on towing and hauling people instead of the off-roading.
2019 Jeep Grand Commander price and release date
