As you may already know, the sport model is based on the regular Land Rover Discovery and it adds a more sporty stance. In addition, this model features more aggressive styling thanks to the modified grille and bigger wheels. However, because Discovery Sport is a six-year-old model, it gains only mid-cycle refreshments this time.
Highlights of this SUV are definitively a new optional powertrain that incorporates a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, new rearview camera-mirror/forward-camera technology, a larger touchscreen with additional functionality and much more.
2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport Appearance
The redesigned 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport will get mid-cycle refreshment. That means that most of the body proportion will remain the same. However, the manufacturer will refresh some parts and it will improve the aerodynamics of this famous SUV.
The Sport version is just six years old, so there is no need for some drastic changes. As we mentioned, some refreshments will happen and the new model will arrive with a grille and bumpers that have been tweaked. Besides that, the manufacturer also added new larger wheels up to 21 inches. Dimension is the same and this SUV measures 107.9-inch wheelbase and the overall length of 181 inches.
Cabin Features
The legendary Land Rover Discovery Sport is the smallest member of the Land Rover family. As you may know, this model features almost the same cabin as its revamped sibling Range Rover Evoque. Besides that, the Discovery Sport offers a third row of seating and the back seats are reserved strictly for kids. However, we must mention that the hybrid model does not offer back row because the battery pack is located under the rear floor.
Land Rover has begun offering more features this time and there are more alternatives to go for. The new model comes with comfortable seats made of microfiber material that is paired with a suede-like steering-wheel covering. Also, the new bigger 10-inch central touchscreen infotainment system is added and it supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. In addition, it offers wireless device charging, six USBs, and three 12-volt outlets, now distributed among all three rows of seating.
Under the Hood
Under the skin, the new 2021 Land Rover Discovery model will get some noteworthy mechanical updates. This model will arrive with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that works in combination with turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder. Thanks to this system, the new model will deliver a total of 286 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
Land Rover’s Ingenium turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four is now offered as standard and this engine makes nine more horsepower than before. It delivers a total of 246 horses, along with 269 lb-ft of torque. Both models above will use the same revised 9-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive remains standard as the Terrain Response System. Off-road ability will be better thanks to the vehicle’s 8.3 inches of ground clearance primarily.
EPA estimates are not yet available. Whatsoever, towing will also be better and now both powertrains can maximum pull 4,409 pounds. As you can see, this figure is the same as on predecessor.
How Much Will the 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport Cost?
Pricing for the latest 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport won’t be released until closer vehicle’s on-sale date. According to many reports, the new version will debut this summer. However, because of the current Covid-19 outbreak, the release date may be delayed. As for the price, we don’t expect any jump. The current model starts at $37,990 for the regular model and it can go up to $53,200. Volvo XC60, Audi Q5, and BMW X5 are the main competitors of the upcoming model.
