The 2023 Toyota 4Runner is an upcoming SUV that has rugged design and off-road capability like some body-on-frame trucks. This SUV can cross with ease through high water and scramble over rocks and muddy terrain, thanks to its high clearance. This is particularly easier if you go for the TRD Pro trim.
Under the 4Runner’s hood is the same proven 4.0-liter V6 powertrain that delivers a total of 270 horsepower. Interestingly, like many of its rivals that come with six or even eight gearboxes, the Toyota 4Runner is one of the rarest SUVs that’s available with a 5-speed automatic transmission.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Redesign
The 2023 Toyota 4Runner has a unique look thanks to its boxy shape, new headlights, painted diagonal C-pillar and flared fenders. However, the exterior of the 4Runner can change a bit through the trim range.
For example, if one chooses to go for the TRD Pro model, it can count on off-road touches like a special front skid plate, wheels, and a roof rack. The TRD Sport model is the most favorite appearance package, which includes color-keyed accents, hood scoop, front spoiler, and black roof rails.
Standard Features
The interior design looks pretty modern despite the fact that this SUV is in its 12th year of production. Toyota put some modern tech features last year, and the new 2023 Toyota 4Runner will carry over it. Most notably, the updated and modern 8-inch infotainment system is present with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa.
The seating space is pretty the same, and you can fold down the rear seats without taking off the headrests. It opens a cavernous 89.7 cubic-foot cargo hold. The dual-zone automatic climate control, perforated leather seats, power moonroof, JBL 15-speaker premium audio, heated and ventilated front seats are all available on the upper Limited trim.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Engine Specs
The sole engine still powers the 2023 Toyota 4Runner. It uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine that’s capable of producing 270 horsepower. As we mentioned, the engine is hooked with a five-speed automatic transmission, and it’s disappointing that 4-wheel drive doesn’t come standard. Rear-wheel drive is still standard.
In case you didn’t know, even the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco come with 4-wheel drive. So far this model was low rated for fuel economy, but we believe the new model could get some mechanical improvements. On the other hand, there are some rumors about a new engine that could be more powerful and efficient. Despite rumors, we don’t have an official statement so far.
2023 Toyota 4Runner Price, Release Date
The new 2023 Toyota 4Runner starts at $37,605, plus a destination charge for SR5 model. Next up is the 4Runner Trail Special Edition at $39,570, then the street-focused TRD Sport model $40,450, and the Limited and the TRD Pro $47,190 and $52,420, respectively.
However, for less money, you can get a 4-door Jeep Wrangler Unlimited that begins at around $32,000. In the same ballpark is the Ford Bronco, in 4-door form, starting at $37,000. Reportedly, the upcoming Toyota 4Runner will go on sale in the third quarter of 2022 as the 2023 model.
