The next-gen 2021 Toyota Highlander is almost ready to hit the roads. New Highlander will offer so many updates both inside and outside. This SUV will remain a three-row model with a room for eight passengers. It is a real family favorite and a perfect candidate for longer trips.
In terms of performances, Highlander will continue to offer both gasoline and hybrid options. Diesel powertrain is still a speculation. The latest spy shots are clearly showing us that Highlander will borrow some cues from the smaller RAV4 crossover. As for the pricing, 2021 Highlander will get a slightly higher starting price.

Even through the camouflage, most exterior changes are visible. The 2021 Toyota Highlander will get a complete redesign. It is easy to tell the all-new grille is sitting up front. Edges on the grille are curved and LED headlights are much thinner now. Side mirrors are also new and are finished in a different shape.
The rear end is still a mystery. Some changes in the D-pillar will happen for sure. However, we can’t tell how it’s gonna look. We expect edgier rear design with new taillights. However, one of the biggest news will be Highlander’s new platform. It is the same TNGA architecture that will see plenty of improvements.
Exterior Colors
The forthcoming 2021 Toyota Highlander will introduce new colors for sure. Whatsoever, Toyota plans to keep the current exterior color palette. Knowing that we can expect at least four metallic colors. That includes Midnight Black, Celestial Silver, Alumina Jade, and Blizzard Pearl.
Moreover, the 2021 Highlander offers Predawn Gray Mica and Ooh La La Rouge Mica. Finally, Salsa Red, Toasted Walnut and Shoreline Blue Pearl are all available.
Engine Lineup Will Remain
According to the latest reports, a new 2021 Toyota Highlander will continue to ride on a 2.7-liter engine. It is a four-cylinder engine that produces 185 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. Moreover, it comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Such a robust SUV deserves more power and Toyota is offering an optional 3.5-liter V6.
This powertrain is not only stronger, but it also comes with a better fuel economy. It can generate 295 hp and 263 lb-ft of twist. This naturally-aspirated unit comes with a standard front-wheel-drive setup. On top of that, 8-speed automatic gearbox is available as standard too.
2021 Highlander Hybrid
The upcoming 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid will hit the dealerships next year as well. This model will utilize a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit with a pair of electric motors/generators. The battery pack is strong enough so the total output is rated at 240 hp.
Toyota is also promising at least 35 mpg. A hybrid variant will also deploy a front-wheel-drive system as standard. Of course, you can equip Highlander Hybrid with an optional all-wheel-drive setup.
2021 Toyota Highlander Price and Release Date
The price of the next-generation 2021 Toyota Highlander will be slightly raised. That means the price will start at around $33,500. Highlander Hybrid will cost closer to the $40,000. The optional V6 engine is $2,000 just like the optional all-wheel-drive configuration.
A Limited Platinum trim level starts at $47,000. The price is still in line with the rest of the competition. Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, and Nissan Pathfinder are just some of the Highlander’s strongest rivals. New company’s SUV will arrive later in 2020.
