Macan is going electric. Yes, you read it right. The upcoming 2021 Porsche Macan will get its first electric variant. Porsche also plans to release its electric Taycan model. After that, Taycan Sport Turismo version will also hit the dealerships. Knowing that 2021 Macan will become Porsche’s third all-electric model. The main reason for such a radical upgrade is BMW and its iX3 model.
Naturally, Macan competes with the X3 SUV. Now that the BMW is releasing an electric version, Porsche is getting ready for another battle. Besides this change, we don’t know a lot about 2021 Macan and its innovations. However, we don’t have to worry, it is luxury SUV with great performances and impressive design.
What Do We Know So Far?
The next-gen 2021 Porsche Macan will surely introduce a lot of novelties. The current model is only a couple of years old. For that reason, it will be interesting to see what will Porsche do this time. We don’t know much about the new-gen model. Macan will surely ride on a new Premium Platform Electric, also known as PPE. It is an architecture developed by Porsche and it largely departs from the J1.
A J1 platform will underpin new Taycan and Taycan Sport Turismo. On the other hand, PPE offers flexibility and it will support vehicles with both higher and lower ride. Furthermore, PPE is universal and it supports models with shorter and longer wheelbase.
All-Electric 2021 Macan
Reports are convinced the 2021 Porsche Macan will use a pair of electric motors. On top of that, the EV variant will deploy an AWD system as standard. Basically, imagine the range-topping trim level with all-electric powertrain. Speaking of trim levels, 2021 Macan will largely remain.
The same number of trim levels will provide very customization for its customers. For the same reason, you can expect different power outputs and different driving range. Maximum range will be over 300 miles. However, entry-level models will provide around 240 miles.
What About Conventional Engine Options?
If you are a fan of turbocharged engines, you don’t have to worry. The upcoming 2021 Porsche Macan will keep its current engine lineup. Macan model that is available in Europe will use a 2.0-liter turbo-four unit. It can produce 245 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque.
Macan S rides on a 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine. This output is rated at 356 horses and 339 lb-ft of twist. Macan Turbo is the most powerful version. Thanks to its 3.6-liter twin-turbo engine, Turbo variant delivers 400 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque.
2021 Porsche Macan Price and Release Date
While we wait for official confirmation and more specific details, all we can do is predict. The next-gen 2021 Porsche Macan will get a small jump in price. The base model will cost around $50,000. On the other hand, the Macan Turbo will surely start above $75,000.
However, the biggest mystery is the 2021 Macan EV version. All-electric SUV will surely cost a lot. Its price will be closer to the Turbo model than the entry-level Macan. We just can’t wait for Porsche to release its new SUV in the second half of 2020.
