The all-new 2021 Jeep Wrangler is bringing exciting news. This iconic SUV will get its first PHEV version. Spy shots are already available, and it seems that everything is ready for the new era. Jeep previously announced its plan to electrify its SUV lineup before 2022. Wrangler, as one of the company’s best-selling models in history will be one of the first to go green.
Besides that, further improvements are expected. As you know, Ford Bronco is about to arrive and will try to rival Jeep’s SUV. For that reason, the manufacturer will provide additional changes and improvements.
Gasoline Powertrain Remains
The fourth-generation Wrangler is available for two years now. The upcoming 2021 Jeep Wrangler will continue to deliver mid-cycle refreshments. However, its 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine will remain standard.
This unit is capable of producing up to 285 horsepower and it will offer both manual and automatic transmission. On top of that, this engine delivers 265 lb-ft of torque. If you are a fan of gasoline powertrain, this will be your only option.
What About Diesel?
Bronco is coming to the markets, so Jeep needs to provide everything. For that reason, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler will also get an optional diesel powertrain. It is a 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. This EcoDiesel unit will generate 265 horses and 445 lb-ft of torque. We are still waiting for the official engine specs such as towing capacity and fuel economy. No doubt, this will attract a lot of customers. Now, it’s Ford’s turn to step up.
2021 Wrangler vs. Ford Bronco
New Ford Bronco is official. However, there are still plenty of rumors about the Blue Oval’s new SUV. To beat the Wrangler, Ford will reportedly offer numerous variants. That includes the “Baby Bronco,” Bronco Pickup and Bronco Hybrid. We still have doubts about most of these rumors.
Bronco will arrive with a 10-speed automatic transmission while Wrangler will use an 8-speed gearbox. When it comes, the Bronco SUV will produce more energy than the Jeep’s flagship model. A hybrid variant seems like for Bronco, but Wrangler is preparing an instant comeback.
Wrangler PHEV
The first spy shots of the all-new 2021 Jeep Wrangler PHEV leaked online. First taught is that the PHEV variant looks the same as the base model. However, Wrangler PHEV will slightly depart. The center section between the taillights is clear. Whatsoever, electric technology will sit between the exhaust and driveshaft space. Upfront, a seven-slot grille will stay intact.
Black body cladding is visible at first glance, so this is an innovation. As for the performance, Wrangler PHEV will pair one of the two available engines. Still, we don’t know if it is going to be a gasoline or diesel powertrain. Whatever happens next, this SUV will gain slightly more power and a significant boost in terms of efficiency.

The approaching 2021 Jeep Wrangler will once again cost around $30,000. The newest PHEV version will be priced at almost $40,000. While we wait for the official statement, this SUV should arrive in the first quarter of 2021.
