If you are looking for a high-performance SUV, Volkswagen could have an answer for you. The 2020 VW Tiguan R Line is the performance-oriented SUV that will look very sporty. Both the interior and the exterior are looking sporty and performance is great.
First speculations about the Tiguan R Line started a couple of years ago. However, nothing specific happened in the meantime. Finally, the German automaker will provide another “R-type” vehicle. Before Tiguan, we already saw models such as T-Roc and Arteon. Now, Tiguan SUV will also get its R badge.
Exterior Comes With Sportiness
The all-new 2020 VW Tiguan R Line will look very attractive and sporty. After a leaked video, we finally had an opportunity to see something more specific. As you probably remember, speculations about the Tiguan R Line are present since 2016. Now, this SUV will finally get its sporty variant. When it comes to the exterior design, Tiguan R Line comes with quad exhausts.
Numerous badges are visible at first glance. Special R-Line bumpers are looking way more aggressive than the bumpers on the base model. LED headlights, larger 20-inch alloy wheels, and sportier grille are all available. Also, the hood will feature more scoops and aerodynamics are better. The rear end will keep its horizontal approach, which also includes the taillights.
2020 VW Tiguan R Line Colors
According to reliable reports, the 2020 VW Tiguan R Line will get the same color palette as the base model. That means there will be up to twelve different exterior paints. Pure White and Urano Gray are standard choices that are available for free. Optionally, you can opt for numerous metallic choices.
That includes Atlantic Blue, Carribean Blue, Indium Grey, and Reflex Silver. On top of that, Ruby Red Titanium Beige, Crimson Red and Tungsten Silver are available. If you want a famous pearl effect, Volkswagen is offering two more color options. Deep Black Pearl and Onyx White Pearl are in the offer.
Interior Features and Trim Levels
R Line will add plenty of sportiness from the inside. Unlike the base model, the 2020 VW Tiguan R Line adds much more luxury. R Line is more like a sort of sporty appearance package than the actual trim level. For that reason, you can choose SEL or Premium trims and add the R Line package. Thanks to that, SEL will get a new 8-inch touchscreen and new navigation. The premium model will add an optional 3rd row and premium audio system.
On top of that, remote start and VW Digital Cockpit are in the offer as well. Generally, seats are sportier and comfort is much better. However, design and the interior layout won’t change that much. On top of that, you can load optional leather seats with heating and ventilating options. Also, more safety equipment comes as standard with the R-Line package.
Engine Rumors
Things under the hood of the 2020 VW Tiguan R Line are still unclear. The base model comes with a 2.0-liter engine that produces 185 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Now, the latest rumors are strongly suggesting the Golf R variant with the same engine. However, this 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI will produce around 400 horses. That means there is still plenty of room for improvements with this engine.
Tiguan R Line probably won’t generate 400 horses, but slightly less. Another interesting rumor is a 3.0-liter VR6. This engine comes with a turbocharger and it produces over 400 horsepower. This engine will become available inside the new Arteon R model. No matter which engine becomes available, a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system will come as standard.
VW Tiguan R Line Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2020 VW Tiguan R Line will cost around $35,000. The base Tiguan model costs $27,000. It is a significant jump in terms of pricing.
However, R Line comes with a sporty appearance, better comfort, and much better performance. New Tiguan R Line will go on sale in the last quarter of 2019.
