Karoq compact crossover is already available in numerous trim levels and special variants. More aggressive Scout and sportier Sportline models are available to. Now, Karoq is about to get an RS badge. The 2020 Skoda Karoq RS will go on sale later this year. It will share the platform with the Cupra Ateca model.
And unlike the Kodiaq RS model, Karoq RS will offer a gasoline powertrain. RS variant will add more aggressiveness and unique features from the inside. The 2020 Karoq RS will offer an all-wheel-drive system, new adaptive suspension and much more.
2020 Skoda Karoq RS Comes With Black Grille and Unique Wheels
Compact Karoq model will get the same RS treatment as the larger Kodiaq SUV. The 2020 Skoda Karoq RS will get a notably more aggressive exterior design than the regular model. We can expect plenty of unique and new features. New bumpers, new vents, lights, and wheels. Honeycomb mesh upfront is restyled and it adds larger openings.
Additional lights in the bumper are new and black trims are adding more premium appearance. Black grille is similar to the grille on the Skoda Kodiaq RS model. To the sides, changes are very minor. Besides the new unique wheels, everything will remain. Rear part comes with slight revisions. The bigger roof spoiler and additional “RS” badges are available. However, the rear end still looks similar to the Sportline’s rear end. The same design is also seen in the Kia Seltos model.
Cabin Is Techy and Sporty
The cabin of the 2020 Skoda Karoq RS is stylish and unique. However, don’t expect extreme sportiness. The cabin is more comfortable and quiet, especially during the high-speed ride. Basically, the upgrades are the same as in the Kodiaq RS model. Front passengers will enjoy in sportier seats and heavier bolstering.
Seats are also looking unique and are dressed in Alcantara upholstery with diamond contrast stitching. The same stitching can be found on the door armrests, door panels, and steering wheel. Instrument cluster will remain and the display will show different graphics. Speedometer comes with red accents and the cabin will sport new stainless steel pedal covers.
2020 Skoda Karoq RS Powertrain
The all-new 2020 Skoda Karoq RS will share the platform with the Cupra Ateca model. Because of that, Skoda will even borrow a drivetrain from the Ateca. A 2.0-liter unit is producing up to 296 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. This comes as a huge improvement for Skoda’s RS lineup. Kodiaq RS is offering a disappointingly poor performance with its diesel engine.
Also, Karoq’s range-topping model is producing only 150 HP which is not enough for the RS vehicle. For that reason, Skoda opted for the Ateca’s engine. This four-cylinder engine comes with the same 7-speed automatic transmission. Also, an AWD system comes as standard. Ateca model sprints from 0 to 62 mph in 5.4 seconds. Similar results are expected with the Karoq RS. The compact crossover will also get a larger brake and new adaptive suspension.
Price and Release Date
The compact crossover will become available in the second half of 2019. However, this model is not certain for the North American markets. The price of the 2020 Skoda Karoq RS will start at $43,000. Just to compare, the base model is priced at $26,000.
