The return of the iconic CX-7 model is about to happen. This crossover will arrive at the beginning of the next year. The 2020 Mazda CX-7 will hit the roads with an all-new design and plenty of character. However, new CX-7 still comes with plenty of mystery. For the start, dimensions are one of them. Whatsoever, Mazda already offers a subcompact CX-3 and compact CX-5.
Moreover, CX-9 is a mid-size model. We don’t believe the 2020 CX-7 will be a large model. One thing is certain. Mazda will deliver a very modern and upscale design with a premium interior. We can expect two or three efficient drivetrain options as well.
2020 Mazda CX-7 Redesign
Reliable reports are convinced the 2020 Mazda CX-7 will be a mid-size crossover. Some other rumors are suggesting the CX-9 model become the all-new CX-7. Both outcomes are perfectly reasonable. In that way, a larger model could take the CX-9 name. The upcoming crossover will share almost nothing with its predecessor. CX-7 was in production since 2006. However, this model lasted for only six years. Now, things will change, drastically.
Company’s famous design language and the Kodo design will be surely present. As for the styling, the 2020 Mazda CX-7 will look impressive and very modern. However, we can’t call that styling unique. As a matter of fact, CX-7 will borrow all of the styling cues from the rest of the company’s lineup. Iconic grille design, LED headlights and taillights are all offered as standard. Of course, this crossover will arrive with plenty of sportiness and it will look stylish at the same time.
Premium Cabin Design
As for the interior, there will be no surprises at all. Mazda knows how to deliver a premium design. The 2020 Mazda CX-7 comes with a standard 7-inch display and very modern shapes of buttons and air vents. Plenty of chrome accents are visible at first glance. Moreover, the dash sports a cleaner design with a simple layout.
The seats are very comfortable and upper trim levels are offering leather seats as standard. Thanks to those higher trims, CX-7 can be equipped to a real level of luxury. That includes a premium sound system, power-adjustable seats and much more. When it comes to safety, CX-7 will offer ActiveSense safety suite. This package adds plenty of safety aids and driver-assistance systems. This crossover will most likely compete in the mid-size segment and it will offer a room for seven persons.
2020 Mazda CX-7 Powertrain Specs and Towing Rate
The all-new 2020 Mazda CX-7 will get at least two engine choices. Both engines will be a Sky-Activ type of engines. Everything will start with a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This unit is capable of producing 185 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. Another 2.5-liter drivetrain will be optional. This engine comes with a turbocharger and it generates 250 horsepower.
A hybrid model is another possibility for this crossover. However, it will most likely in 2021. We don’t know anything about the transmission. To this date, speculations are suggesting either 8-speed automatic or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. New Mazda’s crossover will be able to tow almost 3,000 pounds.
Price and Release Date
When it arrives, the 2020 Mazda CX-7 will cost around $26,000. Just to compare, the current CX-9 crossover is priced at almost $30,000. For that reason, this starting price is very reasonable.
Grand Touring model will be in the offer as well. However, this version will cost significantly more, above $35,000. Mazda’s newest mid-size crossover will make its return at the beginning of 2020.
