The all-new 2020 Chevy Equinox is expected to arrive with minor changes this year. The 2018 Equinox went through the serious overhaul and the 2019 model got further upgrades as well. The 2020 model will get minor updates only and we can expect the third-generation to start in 2022. Surprisingly or not, Equinox is still the Chevrolet’s second best-selling vehicle, right after the Silverado pickup truck.
The 2020 Equinox will get new exterior colors and new interior color schemes. Performance-wise, the SUV will continue to offer three engine choices, two gasoline, and a single diesel engine. A compact four-door body style is the only configuration you can opt for. The famous GM D2 platform will remain for now as well.
2020 Chevy Equinox Exterior Gets Minor Changes
The upcoming 2020 Chevy Equinox will continue to sit on the GM D2 platform. The same architecture currently underpins models such as GMC Terrain, Buick Envision, and Chevy Cruze. Equinox model is a four-door compact SUV that will arrive with minor changes only. The dimensions and the shape will remain. Whatsoever, both front and rear parts should stay intact too.
Chevy is likely to offer two new exterior paints and add more pronounced character lines to the sides. Besides that, the compact SUV won’t suffer any further upgrades. The 2018 model suffered a redesign and the 2022 Equinox will represent the start of the third-generation. That means the 2020 and 2021 models won’t get any significant upgrade.
2020 Chevy Equinox Technology Department is Updated
The interior will get minor updates only. And when we say updates, we really mean updates, not changes. The 2020 Chevy Equinox should get a slightly bigger dashboard and shorter center stack. The 7-inch touchscreen will remain and it will be standard. An 8-inch unit will be optional on the standard model. The technology department will be updated and that includes the infotainment system as well. The interior room will remain, just like the cargo area.
Generally, the cabin is practical and the comfort is great. There is plenty of legroom for all the occupants. Have in mind the Equinox is a compact SUV and ample legroom makes this model a perfect candidate for the long family trips. Cargo area offers up to 63.5 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded flat. Optional equipment includes OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
2020 Chevy Equinox Engine and Fuel Economy Rating
The 2020 Chevy Equinox will continue to offer three engines just like the current model. The compact SUV will get a turbodiesel engine, at least for the U.S. markets. Interestingly, all three units are four-cylinder engines and two of them are gasoline. The 1.5-liter gasoline is the standard choice and it delivers 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is of this engine type is 26 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway.
The optional gasoline unit is the 2.0-liter that can generate 255 HP and 260 lb-ft of torque. While it provides more power, the optional drivetrain delivers a slightly lower fuel economy figures. The 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel delivers 137 horses and 240 lb-ft of torque.
Transmission System
No matter which engine you opt for, a front-wheel-drive configuration will be standard. Moreover, all three units are offering an optional all-wheel-drive setup. A 6-speed automatic transmission is standard and the all-new 9-speed automatic gearbox will be optional.
2020 Chevy Equinox Release Date and Price
The new compact SUV will hit the dealerships in the last quarter of 2019. It will keep its existing price that starts at $26,000. The 2020 Chevy Equinox will look to rival established competitors such as Mitsubishi Outlander and Toyota RAV4.
There should be the same number of trim levels as before so the changes for the 2020 model are really minor.
