Bringing back the Xterra SUV is one of the Nissan long-term plans for the future. This model was discounted in 2015 and the Japanese carmaker will introduce the 2019 Nissan Xterra that will mark the start of third-generation. According to latest reports, Nissan will try to revive the off-road utility segment and the Xterra will try to rival Jeep Wrangler and future Ford Bronco.
This SUV will arrive with the all-new exterior design and more modern interior features. Xterra should attract more customers thanks to the latest innovations and some radical moves are on the cards. Furthermore, the 2019 Xterra will use the platform that underpins the Nissan Navara pickup truck. With that in mind, we can expect great off-road capability and the upcoming model will largely depart from its predecessor.
2019 Nissan Xterra sits on the platform used in the Navara pickup model
The upcoming 2019 Nissan Xterra will ride on the platform of the Nissan Navara pickup. The same platform underpins Renault Alaskan and Mercedes-Benz X-Class. However, this SUV is based on the Nissan Frontier model and some styling cues are taken from this pickup as well. Moreover, Xterra will borrow a lot from other company’s pickups such as Rogue and Pathfinder. We can’t say this SUV is very unique, but there is a certain level of uniqueness that is not that much significant.
Whatsoever, the 2019 Xterra will get an all-new exterior design. For the start, the front end holds a new grille and the redesigned LED headlights. The hood is new as well and generally, Nissan is providing a more angular approach. Both front and rear bumpers are larger now and the taillights at the back are looking fresh and modern. The rugged appearance remains, however, the design looks subtle and up to date.
2019 Nissan Xterra interior looks superb
The all-new 2019 Nissan Xterra will arrive with the completely fresh interior. More importantly, the interior will look no way near the interior of its predecessor. The last model showed the signs of aging and the discount of the 2015 model didn’t surprise us at all. However, the new 2019 Nissan Xterra will look superb from the inside. The cabin will hold the latest technology systems and we can expect much better interior layout. The comfort will be on a whole another level and we must credit Nissan’s designer for creating such a beautiful interior. The shapes of the buttons and vents are looking really modern. The interior will offer room for seven persons across the three rows of the seats. Furthermore, reliable sources are saying the five-seat interior configuration could happen as well.
The safety rating should be higher than before. More airbags are present, along with the traction control, and safety aids such as lane departure warning and blind spot monitoring. The modernization of the cabin continues with the latest infotainment system that will add an additional large touchscreen. The dash will get a more futuristic look and most of the features will get an update.
When it comes to interior comfort, the cloth seats are standard and are providing a pleasant ride. The leather seats are optional, along with the other premium features. Both headroom and legroom are ample and it will be interesting to see the figures of the cargo area.
2019 Nissan Xterra engine performance
When it comes to the engine department, only one thing is certain and it is a 2.3-liter V6 engine. This unit will be standard and it will produce 187 horses and 223 lb-ft of twists. A 6-speed manual transmission will be in the offer, along with the optional 4WD system. Furthermore, the same engine powers some of Renault’s crossovers. Fuel economy delivers 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. A 4WD configuration slightly lowers the mileage numbers. The optional engines are perhaps the main subject when it comes to the 2019 Nissan Xterra.
A 2.8-liter four-cylinder Duramax diesel engine was already present in the previous generation. This engine could make a production once again, and 4.0-liter V6 is another speculated powertrain. A 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas unit is another possibility that offers a 7-speed automatic transmission. We still don’t know the figures of the possible engines. Additionally, a huge mystery is where will Xterra go on sale. We believe that each market will get a different engine, so the options are various.
2019 Nissan Xterra price and release date
Japanese carmaker didn’t precisely say the price of the 2019 Nissan Xterra or the release date. The previous model from 2015 was priced at $23,500. Now, the 2019 model looks a lot better and it has much tougher competitors.
For that reason, the price of the 2019 Nissan Xterra will start at around $28,000. Of course, this is not official yet, neither the release date is. But when it comes to date of releasing, we can expect Nissan’s newest SUV in the first quarter of 2019. Additionally, we’ll have to wait and see the trim levels, as we expect at least one luxurious model.
