The forthcoming 2019 Ford Edge is a mid-size crossover SUV that will arrive with a mid-cycle refreshment. The current second-generation is present since 2015 and it looks kinda dull and aging. A much-needed modernizing and sharpening will happen and that will include some interior changes as well. Safety will be better and more driver assist features are in the offer.

2019 Ford Edge exterior is more modern
The all-new 2019 Ford Edge will look more angular and more modern. Furthermore, new upgrades will add much crisper lines and sharper edges. While the side profile will stay intact, the front and rear parts will get some significant changes and updates.
The front end now sports a new grille, restyled headlights, bigger fog lights and a new hood. Some changes are visible while some changes are subtle. The headlights will now use a LED technology, along with the fog lights. More or less the same amount of updates will happen at the back too. Perhaps the biggest change is a larger license plate relief. The power-liftgate handle now sits closer to the bumper and the taillights are larger and bolder. If you want a darker look with plenty of black-out features, choose an Appearance package. This package also adds 19-inch aluminum wheels, new skid plates, and new mirrors caps. Plenty of black accents are visible, especially around the headlights. New exterior colors are Lightning Blue and Blue Metallic.
2019 Ford Edge interior updates
The interior updates are not that significant as the exterior updates. However, the latest changes are more than welcoming and most of the changes will happen in the center console. For the start, the shift leveler is gone and a rotary shift knob is in. This type of knob is almost the same as the one inside the current Ford Expedition. With this change, the 2019 Ford Edge gets some extra space in the console so the cup holders are now in the offer. Below the shifter, you can find buttons for the parking and start/stop systems. A wireless phone charger now sits under the HVAC controls and a pair of new USB ports are in the offer.
The FordPass system now supports latest phone integrations and Wi-Fi hotspot for up to ten devices. Furthermore, Ford SYNC3 infotainment system supports Amazon Alexa integration and users can control things such as navigation via voice-control. An 8.0-inch touchscreen is standard as before and the interface is user-friendly. A 12-speaker B&O Play system is optional while the SiriusXM and HD Radio are standard.
2019 Ford Edge cargo space
The room inside the cabin will remain the same. That means the rear cargo space is rated at 39.2 cubic feet and with the rear seats folded flat the area expands to 73.4 cubic feet of space. The legroom is ample both front and back. The front seats provide 42.6 inches of legroom while the rear seats are offering 40.6 inches.
Safety features
The approaching 2019 Ford Edge offers a really long list of standard and optional safety features. Both active and passive systems are on the offer. For the start, active features include a pre-collision assist, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and blind spot monitoring. Moreover, lane-keeping assist, hill-start assist and cross-traffic alert are all standard too.
Optional equipment will now include adaptive cruise control, lane centering and post-collision braking. A passive system that is in the offer is traction and stability control and numerous airbags. Thanks to this systems, new 2019 Edge offers one of the best safety ratings in the class.
2019 Ford Edge engine comes with a start/stop system that will improve fuel economy
The engine department is another place where will Blue Oval carmaker make some significant changes. The 3.5-liter V6 engine is no longer in the offer and the only drivetrain is a 2.0-liter EcoBoost. This four-cylinder unit is present for some time now, however, this engine is slightly retuned. Now, this EcoBoost engine generates 250 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque.
Moreover, Ford says the fuel efficiency will be much better now. If you opt for the Edge ST model, you will get a 2.7-liter EcoBoost that can produce up to 355 HP. The 2019 Ford Edge comes with a new 8-speed automatic transmission, and 6-speed gearbox is gone. A new start/stop system will additionally improve the fuel economy. With this system, new Edge will offer over 30 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive setup is optional as before.
2019 Ford Edge price and release date
Blue Oval automaker didn’t specify the price of the 2019 Ford Edge. The current model cost $24,000 so we can expect a slight price increase. Higher trim models such as Titanium will be available for over $30,000. The new Edge crossover will go on sale in the first quarter of 2019.
